How to Download Music to
Your MP3 Player
You’ve got a new mp3 player. Now it’s time to load it up with music. So, how to download music to your mp3 player?
The first thing to do is check for any software that might have come with the mp3 player. If it came with a CD there may be a special program that facilitates downloading music. If there’s no CD, you might check the manufacturer’s website. Just type in your player’s model number and see what comes up. For those with ipods, you’ll need to use iTunes software.
No software? No problem. Plug your mp3 player into the usb port on your computer. Windows and Mac OS will automatically recognize mp3 players as a removable drive. You will be able to download music to it in the same way you download files onto a memory stick. This is the case with nearly all mp3 players.
After it’s plugged into the usb port, go to “my computer” on your desktop. There you will see what drives are available. For most computers, the DVD/CD drive will show up as D: and your computers harddrive will be C: An mp3 player will usually show up as drive E: or F: and will say something like “removable disk” next to it. Double click on this drive. Now you can click and drag, or copy and paste songs directly onto the mp3 player.
Make sure you’re putting the right music format onto the mp3 player. Some players won’t accept files with .wma or .m4p format for example. The files will copy onto the player, but won’t be recognized and won’t play. Nearly all players will accept files with the .mp3 extension, however. If you have a bunch of iTunes downloads but don’t have an ipod, they won’t work on your mp3 player. You will have to convert your iTunes songs to mp3 format.
Now that you know how to download music to your mp3 player you may be wondering where to get music downloads. Emusic downloads are compatible with all mp3 players, even ipods. You can also use services like Napster or Rhapsody, but make sure you sign up for the “to-go” option.
